  • Recognising Progression

Recognising progression is a vital part of our work at Orchard Therapeutic Farm. Progress is not always linear, and it is not always academic, but it is always meaningful. Taking time to pause, reflect and acknowledge how far a young person has come is essential to building confidence, motivation and self-belief.

The final week of term was dedicated to our FAME sessions. FAME stands for Feeling Acknowledged, Motivated and Empowered. These sessions are intentionally designed to slow the pace, create space for reflection and ensure that progress is recognised in ways that feel genuine and personal to each young person.

During FAME sessions, students are encouraged to reflect on their own journey and to acknowledge the efforts and achievements of others. Watching young people step forward to hand out certificates, speak about their peers and celebrate progress together is a powerful reminder of the impact of being seen and valued. These moments reinforce that progress comes in many forms, from improved emotional regulation and attendance, to increased confidence, independence and engagement.

Celebration at Orchard is never about comparison. It is about recognising individual growth and honouring the small but significant steps that often go unnoticed. For many of our young people, being acknowledged in this way helps them begin to recognise their own strengths and take pride in their achievements.

We observe these sessions with both passion and pride, as young people are supported to reflect on their development and to feel confident in their progress. FAME embodies our belief that learning is not just about outcomes, but about the journey, the relationships built along the way and the confidence gained through being recognised and understood.

At Orchard Therapeutic Farm, recognising progression is not an end of term exercise. It is an ongoing commitment to ensuring that every young person feels acknowledged, motivated and empowered to continue moving forward.
