Wallpapering the Way Forward

The new term is well underway at Orchard Therapeutic Farm, and our students are now fully settled into the rhythm of farm life and learning. With confidence growing, they are taking their vocational training full steam ahead, diving into new skills that will support their futures.

This term, our focus within the painting and decorating module is wallpapering. Practical, hands-on work is at the heart of what we do at Orchard, and these functional and vocational skills underpin every aspect of our approach. From measuring and preparation to understanding plumb lines and the careful technique of hanging wallpaper, our students are discovering not only the craft itself but also the patience and precision it demands.

Thanks to Toby’s creativity and carpentry skills, a special wallpaper wall has been built within the workshop so learners can practise in a real-life setting. This space allows them to make mistakes, try again, and celebrate the moment when the paper hangs neatly in place. These experiences are more than just trade skills; they build confidence, resilience, and teamwork, giving our students skills that reach far beyond the classroom.

It’s exciting times at Orchard as we continue to provide a safe and supportive environment where young people can explore their abilities, gain practical knowledge, and see first-hand the results of their hard work.
